MEET YOUR Doulas

Ashley Haas

Certified Doula, CBE, CLC

I’ve often found myself looking for ways to help or support people in my life.

Growing up in New Jersey outside of Philadelphia, It felt like the natural thing to do was to go to school to earn a BS in Psychology so I could make a career out of helping others. After graduating in 2001 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, I was able to help and serve others as an Army officer for the next 5 years. During my time in the Army, I got to move around to faraway states like Hawaii and countries like South Korea. In doing so, I learned something new about myself; I love to travel!

At the end of my time in the Army, my husband and I got married and transitioned to “civilian life” by moving to Northern Virginia and quickly starting a family. I entered motherhood, the most rewarding yet challenging adjustment of my life. After my personal childbirth experiences with hospital birth in 2007 and 3 home births in 2010, 2011, and 2012, I chose to be a stay-at-home mom. Soon after we got the itch to change the scenery.

This time we packed up our family of 6 and moved to Tampa, Florida. However, my innate desire to help others grew immensely over the next several years. In 2015, I went back to school to earn a Master’s degree from Liberty University in counseling with a focus on Marriage and Family. Upon graduation, I volunteered as a client advocate at a pregnancy crisis center where I supported women prenatally from all walks of life. As I counseled pregnant women and related my own birth experiences, I realized how providing unconditional support and education can make a significant positive impact on our overall birth experience and well-being. This realization ultimately sparked my interest in becoming a birth doula.

In 2018, my family decided it was time for a change once again so we moved across the globe and “down under” to Australia. As soon as we arrived, I wasted no time in pursuing my dream of becoming a birth doula. I was trained and certified through DONA International in Melbourne, AUS, which is the world’s first, largest and leading doula certifying organization. Over the next 3 years, I was honored to support many women and families through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Australia has a midwifery-led maternity system that I grew accustomed to.

My family and I relocated back here to Northern Virginia in 2021. I have come to realize a need for childbirth education regarding hospital births in America. The obstetric-led maternity system in America is very intervention-heavy and can cause stress and confusion for women who are birthing in such an environment. For continuing education, I was trained through Lamaze International to become a childbirth educator.

Now, the best part is, as a certified Doula, childbirth educator, and counselor I am able to focus my passion for helping others on supporting women and families during the most vulnerable, transformational, and empowering life experience of childbirth. Furthermore, I believe I am part of a greater movement that inspires hope and encourages change in the birth care world for women today and those to come.

MEET YOUR Doulas

Rose Worley

Certified Doula, CBE, Placenta Encapsulator

It brings me great joy to be able to support women on their health journeys as they navigate fertility, pregnancies, births, and motherhood.

I was born in New Mexico and spent my childhood between there and Minnesota. My parents elected to homeschool us, which gave me and my siblings a lot of freedom to explore our passions. We were the kids who were always running around barefoot, playing in mud, riding bikes, and harassing each other at the lake. Those years taught me to love nature. I could often be found sitting alone in a tree, journaling or imagining myself as the daring heroine in a life that only existed in my mind. As the second child and oldest daughter in a family of 9 (mom, dad, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and one baby who I’ll meet in heaven), I found my love of caring for and nurturing others before I was out of diapers. We all know a daughter who acted like a second mom (or still does!) to her siblings. That was me to the letter! My parents both worked outside of the home, so as I grew up I was often left in charge of my younger siblings.

Like many doulas, my calling to support mothers during the intimate months surrounding birth began when I was a young girl. Being the eldest daughter in a large family, my natural disposition for nurturing others flourished. I had the privilege to witness maternity care through my mother’s experiences. The major lesson I took away from witnessing her maternity experiences was how much impact one person can have on birth. I learned that it is so important to have the right person to support you during birth. A person who understands your values. A person who will use every tool at their disposal to support you. A person who does those things will deeply impact your birth.

In 2023, I saw two pink lines announcing the presence of a poppy-seed-size human nestled in my womb; I immediately started to find the right people to support me. My pregnancy inspired me to prepare deeply for my own birth. I began researching all things birth relentlessly.

Throughout my months of pregnancy, I experienced how women are expected to blindly trust medical teams. I witnessed how an over-reliance on the medical system creates a culture of fear. Fear is often used to persuade parents into making decisions they regret. The best decisions come from a place of deep trust and love. Hospitals foster an environment where personal autonomy can be stripped from them during the life-changing event of childbirth. As I serve families as a doula, I have witnessed the ways that the medical system can easily violate parents’ rights and autonomy. It is one of the many reasons why I continue to do this work. To remind families that the power lies in their hands, not the systems.

As a doula, I embrace the titles of Perinatal Patient Advocate and Support Person. I understand that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are a vulnerable time where families face a lot of decisions. No two families have the same values and goals. As your doula, my role is to understand your family's values, and help you to understand the information and choices you face, offer sisterly care to mothers, and stand up for the choices your family makes. Especially when your family’s choices are not understood by everyone in the room.

Each birth is a unique gift I am honored to witness and support. I carry all of the knowledge that I have gathered over my years of research, training, and birth attendance into each birth. I continue to be a lifelong learner of birth. It is always teaching me things! I also love to: read books, listen to podcasts, and reflect on my practice. When I enter your birthing space, my number one goal is to help you be empowered as you step into parenthood.

MEET YOUR Doulas

Rebecca Baker

Certified Doula, Homebirth Assistant, BSN

Only God knew that I would be working as a birth doula in the DC, MD, VA area. I started out my career deep in the medical system.

Being a doula is more than just my certifications, training, and experience—it is my calling. It is a deep remembering of how to serve my sisters. As a doula, I serve, love, and care for women and families throughout their childbearing years, holding space for them with compassion, strength, and unwavering support.

Whether I am wiping the sweat from a laboring woman’s brow, squeezing her hips as she moans through a contraction, or gently reminding her to breathe, I feel deeply connected to my purpose on this earth. In my bones, I know I am meant to do this work.

Before stepping into birth work, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida State University in 2017 and spent five years as a bedside nurse. I had the profound privilege of advocating for patients and families during some of the most vulnerable and challenging moments of their lives. This experience strengthened my ability to provide evidence-based care, deepened my empathy, and ultimately led me to explore holistic approaches to health and healing.

As a nurse, I became passionate about holistic and functional medicine, recognizing that true wellness extends beyond symptom management. I dove into research on natural remedies, nutrition, movement, and lifestyle changes—rediscovering the power of returning to the basics of nature for optimal health. This understanding influences my approach as a doula, where I honor the physiological process of birth and the innate wisdom of the body.

In the fall of 2022, I fell in love with birth work. Though I have always been drawn to mothers and babies—spending my teenage years captivated by TLC’s A Birth Story and growing up as the oldest of six children—it wasn’t until I completed my doula training and mentorship with Radically Brave Birth that I fully stepped into this sacred role. Since then, I have had the honor of serving families throughout the DMV area, providing continuous, individualized, and evidence-based support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

My values as a doula include honoring physiology, patience, individualized care, and radical honesty. Birth is not a medical condition that women need to be saved from—it is a natural, powerful process. While I respect and appreciate the role of medical intervention when truly necessary, I deeply believe that women know how to give birth and babies know how to be born. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you connect with your values, trust your body, and embrace the strength that is already within you.

WHAT SETS US APART

  • 01 / ADVOCACY

Our advocacy is intentional, informed, and unwavering. We stand beside you to protect your autonomy, translate medical information, and help create a birth experience where you feel heard, respected, and truly supported. We ensure that you are prepared by knowing your legal rights when stepping into the medical system.

Birth advocacy is the intentional practice of protecting a family’s autonomy by ensuring they are informed, supported, and actively involved in decisions about their care. It includes helping families understand evidence-based options, facilitating clear communication with providers, and supporting informed consent and refusal — all while honoring the family’s values, preferences, and the unique unfolding of their birth.

  • 02/ PHYSIOLOGY

Physiologic birth is the natural process by which labor and birth unfold when guided by your body’s hormones, environment, and your baby. Most of the time, birth follows a beautiful and predictable pattern, and with the right support — and limited interruption — you can trust your body’s innate wisdom to lead the way.

Of course, not all births follow the same path, and at times medical intervention may be necessary. Even when interventions are part of the journey, there are still meaningful ways to support physiologic birth and honor the body’s design through informed decision-making, gentle care, and continuous doula support.

  • 03/ INDIVIDUALIZED CARE

We deeply understand the importance of individulized care for each family. No two families will make the same choices for their birth, even if presented with the same exact information. Your choices flow from your personal values and the things that are most important to you.

Navigating policies, protocols, and procedures can make you feel lik a number on a list. We are here to guide you while you make the decisions for your care that are truly RIGHT for YOU and YOUR family. As your birth doulas, we remind you that the power lays in your hands. Not in the policy of the hospital.
